What one Factory Master Technician produces
At national benchmarks, one Factory Master Technician produces about $52,675 a month in labor and parts sales.
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Billed hours per tech per month | 16013 |
| Customer labor rate per hour | $1861 |
| Parts sold per $1 of labor | $0.771 |
| Produces per month | $52,675 |
Factory master technician: billed hours modeled at about 160 a month, the same as any master, from our recruiting experience, times NADA's average customer labor rate, plus about $0.77 in parts for every $1 of labor on the same repair orders (NADA 2025, customer-pay mechanical). The added value is brand training and warranty capability, not extra hours. Warranty labor alone averages about $4,600 a month per technician (NADA 2025), work that can require brand-certified techs. What we mean by Factory Master Technician
Every technician level is defined in section 3 of our terms, and the fee follows the level you hire.
Why this position is hard to keep filled
Good technicians are scarce: TechForce Foundation's 2026 report counts about 42,000 new automotive technician graduates a year against about 70,000 job openings.37
NADA estimates about 39,000 new technicians graduate each year against a need of nearly 76,000.7 The techs you want are working somewhere else.
Why factory levels cost more. Warranty work is about 20% of dealership service labor, about $4,600 a month per technician on average.1 Warranty and manufacturer-directed repairs can require brand-certified technicians. Ford, for example, required every technician doing certain field service action repairs to be certified and warned that violations could bring penalties up to termination of the franchise.34 Without the brand's certified techs, a store can lose that work or face rejected and charged-back claims.
